Say no to fake-bake

The scary truth about indoor tanning

Photobucket

Recent studies have shown a rise in skin cancer among young women. It is now the most common form of cancer in women ages 25-29. Unreal! Many doctors are blaming the still growing popularity of indoor tanning. It also seems that fake-baking may be an addiction to some. Because of constant pressure from peers, girls and women feel the need to be tan. The truth is, the tan color produced from tanning is actually your body's response to damaged cells. For more on the addictive and damaging nature of tanning beds check out "Why skin cancer is on the rise".

Consider spray tanning, tanning lotions, and bronzers your safest bet to get a golden glow. Always wear an SPF of 15 or higher when you're outside as well ladies! Don't give skin cancer or wrinkles a chance!

  1. Indoor tanning can be a much safer alternative to the sun; however, most girls, like you mention, abuse it and end up tanning far too often and too long. If you use it in moderation, it isn't nearly as harmful as laying out in the sun. Use it in moderation to get a base tan, or just get sprayed--there's no need good reason to look like one of those over-tanned orange girls! :)
